Host Trevor Noah used President Donald Trump’s well-publicised desire to purchase Greenland as a punchline during the 2026 Grammy Awards, bringing the Arctic nation into a massive global spotlight.
During the Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday night, host Trevor Noah took a moment to critique U.S. President Donald Trump, using Greenland as his primary example.
The Associated Press reported that after singer Billie Eilish received a major award, Noah delivered a joke comparing the coveted Grammy trophy to Trump’s geopolitical ambitions.
“This is the Grammy that all artists want to get – almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, and that’s understandable. Now that Epstein’s island is gone,” Noah said.
The Political Backdrop: Trump’s Greenland Fixation
The comedian’s joke stems from President Trump’s repeated statements about his interest in the United States acquiring Greenland. Citing “national security” interests, the president’s desire to annexe the semi-autonomous Danish territory sparked significant diplomatic stir in Denmark, Greenland, Europe, and across the globe.
After several comments about how “we’re getting Greenland,” Trump later stated at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland that he would not use military force to gain power in the Arctic, but the topic remained a major international headline.
Connecting the Dots: The Epstein Link
Noah’s punchline also connected Trump’s Greenland ambitions to the late financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. Donald Trump, along with other high-profile figures like former President Bill Clinton, was linked socially to Epstein for years.
Epstein owned a private island in the Caribbean where, according to widespread accusations, he orchestrated abuse, including against underage girls.
While there is no proof that Trump ever visited the island, there is evidence he flew on Epstein’s private plane several times in the 1990s.
Noah’s joke implies Trump is looking for a new island, with Greenland being the unlikely target.
